I walked into Jamba Juice today because I had walked a long way without eating, and wanted to have a large drink.When I walked in, I saw that for the Holidays, they were doing a special- Free Jamba Juice for a $25 gift card.Sounds good, right? I'm a customer, I really like going there, and I would probably use the gift card myself, and as a result, buy more Jamba juice.

Which is WHY you offer gift cards-so people will give you money NOW,for something they will probably use more often because they have it.

The woman in front of me ordered a POWER, their largest size, and a gift card.However, the special was only for the 16oz. size, like it said on the poster.She begrudgingly paid the extra $1.16 for the power size, took her gift card with the "buyers remorse face"you've seen before, and walked over to wait for her "free" drink... which as far as she's concerned cost her $26.16

But Bones is different.

Bones said "Hi, I WAS going to get a gift card, but I wanted a POWER size drink, and since I can't get thatfor free by spending the extra $25, I'm not going to buy the gift card. Please tell corporate that limiting the special to the 16 oz. size is stupid marketing."

The girl at the counter looked at me with frustration.
"I guess aside from her, I am not the only person to say that to you today. You should definitely tell corporatethey should fire the idiot who made that policy."
She said "Are you serious? You're not going to get the Gift card because of the DOLLAR?"
"That's right. I'd rather buy what I want, and maybe spend the other $25 somewhere else."

That's when she said "If I give you a POWER size, will you get the gift card?"
"Happily" I said.
And she did.

Now it seems like this story is about me "winning" something, but it's not-

The story is about a minimum-wage register clerk who took it upon herself to make the customer happyand took responsibility for HER customer's experience at the store she worked at. She didn't earnany extra money for doing that, and frankly, she'd probably get in trouble for it-

BUT I BOUGHT $25 MORE THAN I WAS GOING TO because of her initiative.

Tell the suit at corporate that I have his replacement.

What Kindle should be doing...

As an author, I recently uploaded a bunch of my books to KINDLE, and told people they were available.

A bunch of people bought them, but many told me they didn't have a kindle, so they couldn't get them.
So, the first thing Amazon should be doing is telling people that they do not need a kindle to read the books more effectively than they are.

In fact, I am a "kindle Author", and I don't have a kindle either why would I when I can get the kindle apps on my PC and my smartphone?

But here's what Amazon should be doing with Kindle books-

LET PEOPLE SELL THEIRS.

That's right- let people sell them to other people for 1/2 of what they paid for them. All of a sudden, there is a market for USED Kindle books, and people can pass them around, still generating money for them, and yet paying less than just getting them from Amazon. After a few passes, the book could expire.

Let's say I buy "Captain Kirk's Guide To Women" for $11, someone else can buy it for $5.50, the next for $2.75, the next for $1.35, etc. The same people still get paid again- the Author, Amazon, the Publisher, etc, but the previous purchaser gets a piece too.

This is a good idea.

And I believe it will save the book world.

So last night, the big news came out that Osama Bin Laden was killed by special forces. Strange news, as it's been 10 years. There were people celebrating as if something great happened, and I have a mix of emotions about it. Of course I'm glad he's gone, but I just feel weird celebrating someone being killed. Facebook was where I went immediately, and made a ton of jokes along with a lot of other people.
Out in front of the white house, and here at Ground Zero, people were congregating, chanting "USA! USA!", and I even saw a beach ball or two. That's what inspired this:

He's been telling everyone that the US dollar is headed for serious collapse (along with everyone else), and he's been advising buying Gold and Silver as a hedge to protect against the devaluation.

So, I went and bought some silver last year, and a little more two weeks ago.

Last year, around April, I bought some silver at $20 (spot price was $17).
Two weeks ago, I bought some more at $40 (Spot price was $38).

That is to say that silver has more than DOUBLED in the past year, and I am of course mad at myself for not buying a lot more last year.

However, here's the thing- TODAY, silver is at 43. So that means the silver I bought TWO WEEKS AGO is now worth about $5 more today (43-38). So, without doing ANYTHING, I have made more than $5 per piece. Are you listening to that?

And then GOLD went up today $10- so you would have made $10 per piece just today!

However, with gold at $1489, the percentage is only .72, whereas today's move on silver was 2%.

You get that? So, you are better off having silver in your earrings than money in the bank right now!!!!

I had to tell someone.

Ok, so some friends of mine Shayna Ferm and Katherine Bryant decided to write an hilarious play and titled it Grease 3- or "Threase". It is a parody of "What If.." they made a Grease 3. Although none of us are playing John Travolta or Olivia-Newton John's characters, there are some... similarities.
The show is super hysterical, totally inappropriate, an super-fun at only 45 minutes. I play a dancer from a rival high school whose sexuality is.. well... revved up. It will be the first time I've been on stage with Alex Goldberg since way back when we were in Kundalini Komedy together, and I can't wait!

I went to an audition for AARP, and my agent giggled. Then I went to the call back, and I posted that on facebook, and my friends had a ball making "You're getting old" jokes.

But then I actually Booked the commercial!!! Thankfully, I am not yet the subject of an AARP commercial, but I was proud to be a part of it, and we had fun shooting it. The woman who is the subject took a zillion takes of the same thing over and over, and she kept the same level of heart-tugging the whole day. I was an upper-middle income shopper in the same store. Fun day, and MANY, MANY jokes on facebook!

Ok, so I have a TON of Seth Godin's Books, and I get excited everytime he releases a new one. I'm also a subscriber of his blog. Today's Blog post goes with my philosophy of "Half-Assed Life":

The myth of preparation

There are three stages of preparation. (For a speech, a product, an interview, a sporting event...)

The first I'll call the beginner stage. This is where you make huge progress as a result of incremental effort.

The second is the novice stage. This is the stage in which incremental effort leads to not so much visible increase in quality.

And the third is the expert stage. Here's where races are won, conversations are started and sales are made. A huge amount of effort, off limits to most people, earns you just a tiny bit of quality. But it's enough to get through the Dip and be seen as the obvious winner.

Here's the myth: The novice stage is useful.

If all you're going to do is go through the novice stage before you ship, don't bother. If you're not prepared to put in the grinding work of the expert stage, just do the beginner stuff and stop screwing around. Make it good enough and ship it and move on.

We diddle around in the novice stage because we're afraid. We polish (but not too much) and go to meetings (plenty of them) and look for deniability, spending hours and hours instead of shipping. And the product, in the end, is not so much better.

I'm all for expertise. Experts, people who push through and make something stunning--we need more of them. But let's be honest, if you're not in the habit of being an expert, it's unlikely your current mode of operation is going to change that any time soon.

Go, give a speech. Go, start a blog. Go, ship that thing that you've been hiding. Begin, begin, begin and then improve. Being a novice is way overrated.

9 Years Later...

Another one of my absolute favorites. I'm pretty down on our country right now, feeling that we've learned absolutely nothing in the last 9 years, but I'm glad you took the time to make this message today.

My apartment was full that day; people couldn't go home, so they came to my place as we made food and stayed in front of the television. I was asleep, and the phone wouldn't stop ringing. Back then I still had a landline. I answered the phone, and Rick told me to "turn on the TV".

"Dude- I'm sleeping"
"Bones- Some planes just crashed into the twin towers"
"huh...? Was it an accident?
"No....."
"Ok, I'll turn on the- Oh my God- LESLIE! She lives down there..."
"Can I come to your place?"
"Yeah, of course- bring whoever. Where's Dave?"
"I don't know, I called you first."
"My phone's been ring... someone's on the other line; ok- come over."

I was answering the phone non-stop; more and more people were asking if they could walk over, since there was no getting through downtown. Laura and I had been hooking up, but after that, I don't think she ever left. I was suddenly proud of myself for being someone people felt they could call. It felt ridiculous to have that thought while everyone was crying in silence.

Then the people started jumping, and eventually the whole thing came down.

Leslie was apparently caught in one of those ash clouds, but she made it out ok.

Across the world, that's everyday for some people.
Because someone else's God said so.

And Gays cause Earthquakes and shouldn't marry because someone else's God said so.
And Jews are put in camps because someone else's God said so.
And Muslim Taxi Cab Drivers are stabbed because someone else's God said so.

And Our God says we should be free-
unless you want to build a community center if you're God is different.

And Our God says you should earn from your own sweat-
unless we want your oil, and you're God is different.

And it seems like the only time we DO get along is when we make money together,
so maybe we oughtta sponsor all the politicians, and place people from different
faiths in their group, and then we won't need to talk about faith in God when what we
really mean is faith in money.

I got seriously choked up around 2:45 because I was really sick when I was younger, and I wondered how my parents must have felt waiting to hear if I was going to die or not.

Anyway, this company just makes nursing bras, and there wasn't even ONE in this video- just a super-simple, heartfelt video that connected with it's audience, and cost almost nothing to make.
It's spreading, and people are learning about the bras.

a crappy video with over 2 million views in 4 days- people are passing it around not only because of the lyrics, but because it's a damn fine song, sung with a wonderful voice with a fun, relateable message.

He also has some other great songs, with the same great voice, but with expensive, well-produced videos, without the same relateable message. They've been out for months, and gotten 2 thousand views.

What's the lesson? PEOPLE LOVE WHAT SPEAKS TO THEM.

The record company promises a "new video", and in my opinion, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. KEEP THIS ONE, and let other people play with it and continue passing it around.

Is it me, or are the women in porn getting insanely beautiful? I don't just mean sexy and hot- I mean beautiful. Tera Patrick may very well be one of the most stunning women to walk the Earth, and mixed-race women are very popular in porn. Complex just listed the top 50 prettiest porn stars, and I gotta say, these women are extremely gorgeous, and will give any Hollywood starlet a run for her money.

So, if porn is attracting the more attractive women, and Hollywood has few real actors, and basically just pretty people and quick-cuts, aren't they pretty much going to merge soon? I mean Jenna Jameson has done a few cross-over movies, and Sasha Grey did that Steven Soderbergh deal, right?

But I think it means more than that.

Here's the thing- if I'm picking who my fantasy women are going to be- or maybe just the "special 5" (those 5 people whom you can have sex with permission from your partner), then I'm going for the Porn star WAAAAY over the Hollywood Celebrity.

I have NO IDEA if the Hollywood celebrity is going to be any good; she may just SEEM like it, but then be a real disappointment. With the Porn Star, I've SEEN THEIR WORK. They have a resume and a "body of work" (so to speak) that shows off their talents. I could just take a quick look at BorrowMyPorn and I would even know what to ask for, what they may be into, or what "special moves" they have.

Lets say you've got a thing for Angelina Jolie. Well, she sure SEEMS sexy and fun, but you can go watch Angelina Valentine at work (Yes, the name is a little obvious), and actually see for yourself. The woman everyone wants now is Megan Fox- well, I'd trade her in for a Jessica Jaymes any day.

Paris Hilton is well-known for "being a celebrity" and has her own MTV show, but her oral sex skills are just as well-known online (c'mon, you've seen it). She's not a "porn star", but she has her blowjob technique out there for everyone to see, and got an amazing amount of publicity for it.

Which leads me to YOU.

Internet dating is here to stay, and is on the rise. We post pictures of ourselves and friends; we try to look our best when we're looking for someone new or just meeting new people.

So why not show of our sexual exploits as well? I think we are ALL going to have sex videos soon, where we actually showcase our sexual talents, likes and dislikes- and it will HELP us come closer together.

That's right- I said it.

I think it will be a GOOD thing.

Actually, now that I think about it, it's probably already happening somewhere, but to a section of society that is probably deemed "deviant" so far.

NY Water is FLAMMABLE???

Up in Candor NY, a man can LIGHT HIS WATER ON FIRE:

How are we ok with this? No one has investigated, because they would then of course find something wrong, and then the company would be liable for something, and then they'd get sued, and then more people would probably find that their water is flammable and toxic, and the company would lose more money.

I assume that's why no one official has looked into this.

But then we gotta ask ourselves if it's worth the profits to let a Vietnam Vet have FLAMMABLE toxic water. What happens in his neighborhood when there's a fire, and they call the fire department? They are going to have to hose from the same FLAMMABLE Water!

And who MAKES money from this story? The Bottled water companies.

In my mind the bottled water companies shouldn't even exist- there should be no need for them, and yet, I filter my water, and buy bottled water when I'm out- supporting their corrupt agenda.

Ok, so "The Old Spice Guy" thing is working BIG TIME. However, FINALLY, a big company has realized that social media is a TWO-WAY conversation, and that just making ads that you post on facebook is not correct- in fact, it's WRONG.

I have been saying it for about two years now, but these guys are doing it BIG TIME, and were smart enough to engage celebrities with big followings.

So, now Old Spice has taken "The Old Spice Guy", and is doing what I wanted to do in Miami but multiplied it by a million- Observe GENIUS marketing, and then watch Alyssa Milano REALLY show them up:

This is where they misstep, and got lazy-

My review of INCEPTION

"Mission Impossible" meets "Dreamscape"... but it's no "Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors"

As much as I liked this movie's last half, there were things about it as it was going along that I thought were downright awful.

I think if I had stopped watching it mid-way (before the "last job") I might have been like "meh- I can do without it".

The dialogue was sometimes atrocious, and it's a good thing that Leo gives us all of his acting skill to make some things roll right on by.

The whole "I've done inception before" felt extremely obvious to me (I'm trying not to spoil a major plot point).

Also, the whole "This is the last job, then I'll go back to my family" thing seemed almost like a joke. And then there was the showing the end at the beginning, which I don't think helped the story at all.

And could we PLEASE tell someone that Saito's accent was too strong to be understood?

AAaand- why wasn't it more "dreamy"? The hotel was just a hotel, the fortress was just a fortress, and nobody did anything DREAMY- that was just not interesting to me. I expected the girl to at least manipulate the world they were in at the end, considering she showed how she could do it before. All of the layered dream worlds were just like reality. Boring!

NOW THEN- All that being said, the last half was SOOOOOO frakkin' amazing, that I forgave all of that!

It was a classic "Uh-oh, things are going wrong already" with the plan, and they had to do some cool stuff to make it work anyway. Very cool. The layering of the dream worlds was inspired. The fight in the hallway was absolutely AMAAAAAAZING, and probably worth admission and the time for the rest of the movie.

The whole idea of The guy (the "target") having been trained to resist attack in his mind by other agents was great, and frankly the only reason for the action. Very smart. I can imagine the discussion in the board room:

"It's about invading people's dreams"
"How do we get GUNS in it?"
"Um... we don't... wouldn't make much sense"
"Well then forget it."
"No- wait! We can get the SUBCONSCIOUS to fight back... with GUNS!"
"Ok- you sold me!"

The writing of the story (for the second half), and the direction was absolutely incredible, considering the complexity of the story.

I cannot imagine how someone would leave the theatre not enjoying this film. I really hope it does well, and the word of mouth is pretty damn good, so it looks like it will.

Yes, I'm making light of a pretty horrific time in my and my families' life, but that's how I do things.

That's me at 5 years old, in the hospital with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.
I was in the hospital for about two months, and my parents were told to prepare for my death. I had an earache, and was given penicillin for the infection. Normally, that would be great, but in this case, it was pretty bad.
We never found out if it was an allergic reaction to the penicillin, or if the penicillin was a bad batch...

-the hospital "lost" it.

Yeah, really.

It was a long time ago for me, and I figured there was a cure and everything by now. When I heard that Manute had died from it, I found out that we still know so little about the disease... like there are no mandatory reporting rules for adverse drug reactions!!!

Now, I wonder why that is?
Well, I guess big pharma doesn't want anyone to know that there drugs might be dangerous!
Look, penicillin is a miracle drug, but shouldn't we also try to prevent deaths from it?
If you search for "Stevens Johnson Syndrome" on Youtube, you'll be horrified. It can strike anyone from any drug, and it mostly gets little children.
You'll be horrified.

I didn't know it, but my case is kind of a miracle. I'll tell you more later; for now,

Toy Story 3- My Favorite Movie of All Time???

I went to see TOY STORY 3 last night at midnight- yes, it's supposed to be a kids' movie, but the theatre was packed with adults... well, over 18 years old adults. If you ask anyone what my favorite movie is, they'll tell you Toy Story 2- I just think that movie has absolutely everything in a great balance. Every line is important, and every plot point is also. I love it.

However, last night, the THIRD movie in the franchise may have just outdone it.
There is a story-telling skill over at Pixar that must be applauded, as well as a knack for grabbing inspiration. I was SOOOOOOO blown away by how great this movie was, I wass crying not because of what was happening, but because someone was able to make it come true on the screen. Absolute MASTERY of a movie.
I have one teeny-tiny choice that I want to see different, but that's just my choice about redemption, but the fact that I'm even talking about that is astounding. PLEASE go see this movie!

Bronx High School Reunion

I went to my 20-Year High School Reunion, and had a great time!
This is me with some of the girls, and then with one of my great friends Jesse, also known as the web-sensation "Jeskid":

Now, let me start by saying that we went to a "Specialized" high school- no, not for the slow, but for the "gifted" for math and science. So, we're all super-geniuses. That's first.

However, one of the things that struck me was how few of us were actually in the sciences now, and how many of us weren't necessarily working towards world-domination.

(At least, none of us SAID we were...)

However- and Laura had to point it out to me- almost everyone was a professional of one sort or another. There was definitely a sense of "future" for just about everyone there, and it was kinda assumed. A lot of people had seen me on "The Marriage Ref", and I got made fun of quite a bit for it, but it was all in fun. The reason I decided to share this with you is that these are the super-geniuses of the world, molded for math and science, and yet, so few of us were pursuing it- why do you think that is?

I was pretty terrified on Thursday night, because we had taped "The Marriage Ref" a few weeks ago, and I was worried that they were going to cut it so I looked like the worst male chauvanist scumbag.

Well, they didn't do that however:

The entire section was about whether or not I was GAY!!

I read a lot of "Spiritual Success" books, and all of them say that giving is the way to increase your luck and prosperity. They also talk about tithing and giving to charity as a way to show your gratitude to the Universe, and that when you don't, that the Universe often collects with bad luck anyway.

Don't tithe or give, and you'll find that the Universe needs you to pay for a car repair, or you suddenly need to pay for a broken leg.

Well, we have created the most prosperous society the world has ever seen, and yet, so many of us are destitute- even starving.

Here's my question- if not for disasters like the Earthquakes, when would we give our money and support to these countries? History has shown that we only do it when it serves our ECONOMIC purposes, except for times of human tragedy, so it seems to me that The Universe is collecting on it's tithe.

Maybe we could see that is IS in our economic interest to help these countries to become prosperous to begin with, and then maybe- just maybe- The Universe won't have to force us by these tragedies.

Just a thought....

I've been hired as he spokesperson for Leblon Cachaca and the Legalize Cachaca movement, and this day I walked into a sports store on Alton avenue in Miami, and there's a picture of Quark in the store.
I say "Hey- It's Quark!". A woman at the desk says "Yes, well, I played Moogie- do you know who that is?"
I looked at her like "Please, don't insult me- of course I do", and I mentioned that I wrote Captain Kirk's Guide To Women. The woman is Andrea Martin, one of the women to play Quark's mother.
Well, we both had a chuckle over the coincidence, and we took a picture together.

Big Al tells it like it is...

I'm on "Big Al" Schrieter's email list, and there are some days I really like it, and some days not so much. For the most part,l I usually find something worth keeping, and I put it into my "mlm" folder. Today, he wrote something I REALLY liked, and I want to pass it on:

"Are you a walking "bad advertisement" for your business?

"Every day the ant works all day. Every hour the ant is busy. And in the end what happens?"

"Someone steps on him."

Many network marketers work their business every free hour they have. Weeknights, weekends, holidays, family reunions, wedding receptions, every event is an opportunity to pass out business cards, catalogs, brochures, audios and . . .

What's happening?

These network marketers are working all day, just like the ant. They are so busy with activities, they fail to see the big picture or real goal. We just hope these networkers don't get stepped on like the ant.

Here is a point of view that networkers should consider:

1. If you spend all your free time building your business, what is your prospect going to see? Your prospect will avoid joining your business because he doesn't want to spend every waking hour networking.

2. If you advertise how network marketing gives you time and money freedom, yet you work your business every waking hour, doesn't something feel wrong with this picture?

3. And what about all this activity? Networking should be simple. If all we have to do is sponsor a few people and build them into leaders, then what's all this other activity about?

4. Would a balanced, happy life attract more prospects?

We are living advertisements for network marketing. We should be careful what our advertising says.

What does your advertising say? "

BOOM. I was taught to work my business ALL THE TIME, and right now, as I'm working for someone else, it makes me a great worker and a great example in the company- but it certainly doesn't make me a good example for the networker lifestyle.

But think about this- If you DID work your business all the time, I'll bet your sponsor would be happy about it- They might even reward you for it, but remember this- Your sponsor does NOT care about your life success- just your MLM business' success.

I am going to try to remember to be the example of FUN I want to be in my businesses from now on!

George and Runner the painting, talking horse

Once upon a time, there was a man named George who wanted to race horses, win a lot of trophies, and make a lot of money.

George went out and found the world's fastest horse, Runner. George watched him win a few races, made a big investment, and bought him so he could win races.

George was very excited about his champion racing horse, and really looked forward to watching him cross the finish line. George bought a stable right by the racetrack, and brushed his horse everyday as he thought about the wonderful future that was ahead for the two of them.

Runner was really excited too, because Runner loved to race. He trained all the time, ate well, and even read books on racing (he was a very smart horse). Runner dreamed of racing, and thought everything else was a waste of time.

George wanted Runner to look good when he was racing, so instead of taking him to the races, he thought he'd go get Runner's hooves cleaned. Runner wanted to be running, but he figured he should do what George said- besides, his hooves really did look better.

The next day, there was a big race, but George wanted Runner to learn to paint a fence with his tail. It might not make any sense to you, but George thought that more people would come to see Runner run races if he could also paint a fence. For a week, Runner was in painting school; at the end, he had a white fence.

"What a great fence!" George said.

Runner (a VERY smart horse) spoke to George, and said "I would love to run a race tomorrow, do you think I could do that now that I am done painting?" George was surprised his horse was so smart he could talk, and he got another idea.

George got a truck and put Runner on display with a big sign that said "See Runner, the talking horse at the races this weekend!".

Well, Runner really didn't like to drive around in the truck all week because he wanted to be racing, but he figured he'd better do what George said because otherwise he was never going to get to race anymore. Besides, he knew that the sign said he'd get to race on the weekend!

Runner was super-excited about getting the chance to run again. He really wanted to win races for George, get trophies for George, and make a lot of money for George.

When Friday night came, George came to the stable with a very disappointed look. "Runner," he said "I bought you so you could win races. So far, it's been two weeks, I've spent all this money, and you haven't won anything! I'm afraid I'm going to have to turn you into glue just so I don't have to keep feeding you."

Runner said "George, please just let me out to race tomorrow, and you'll see! All this time I've been wanting to race, but you wanted me to paint a fence, and drive a truck- just let me race in all the races, and you'll get all the trophies and all the money you can handle!"

"Sorry Runner," George said "It's too late- I already made the deal."

And that's the story of Runner and George, where the world's fastest horse was turned into the world's cheapest glue.

As for George, he never got to win any trophies, he lost all his money, and he eventually jumped off a bridge. But just before he jumped he said to himself "This is all Runner's fault- he should have won races for me."

Why I lied to my wife...

I had been lying to her for months.

My name is Bones Rodriguez, and I met Laura Valpey doing improvisational comedy in New York City. We were friends first, fell in love, and had been living together for two years when I had to start deceiving her.

We had so many funny conversations that I had made some of them into short sketches, and even turned one of them into a book- “Captain Kirk’s Guide To Women”, due out in February from Simon and Schuster.

I told her I wanted to perform seven sketches during my birthday party that year- which was to be held 3 weeks AFTER my birthday.

That was a lie.

I also told her that my mother was coming up to visit because she had a reunion that weekend, and she would come see the show- just to spend time with us.

That was another lie- but it just snowballed after that.

All of the friends I invited to the birthday party had to lie to her too- they all knew the truth, but were sworn to secrecy. The comedy group we were in together had to lie- they all memorized lines, and produced a show all built around the same secret:

I was going to propose to her that night.

In fact, I had written seven sketches all to set up for the fifth one- the one where “the couple” (we played ourselves) discusses engagement rings, and the unskilled guy needs tips from the girl.

We performed sketches about looking for the TV remote, sketches about internet dating, and sketches about sex. The audience started out nervous- we were all waiting for the big scene- but after a while the laughter came and they seemed to forget why they were there.

But I couldn’t let it go; The entire night I was unfocused, stuttering, and forgetting my lines left and right. My poor girlfriend had to keep feeding me my lines, but she just figured I was nervous because I had written the entire show.

Then came the “ring sketch”, and the audience stopped laughing.

You could hear a pin drop as we went through the scene, a chuckle here, and stifled laugh there. About 2 minutes into it, they loosened up, and they laughed easily again. I was playing the incompetent guy, not knowing how to look for a ring, classify a ring, or buy a ring. Laura said her lines about the weight, color, and style.

Then Laura’s line came: “I wanna be surprised”

Unbeknownst to her- this was my big moment. This is why I had written these sketches, and this is why I was onstage. This was why 50 people were in the audience, and why my mother flew up from Miami. This is the moment when I could stop lying, hiding and misleading.

I went off-script, and delivered a different line: “Are you sure?”

But she had been feeding me lines all night, and since we’re both trained improvisers, she just went with me:

“yeah”

But then she could see the look on my face when I called my best friend over to the stage:

“Ok… Hey Rick….”

The audience held their breath, and Rick brought the ring he had been holding in his pocket all night- the ring that I had bought months before, the ring I had hidden in a piece of furniture after staying up late nights doing “work”.

That’s when it hit her.

A sketch about looking for engagement rings? A birthday party three weeks after my birthday? Calling her parents to tell her all about the party and inviting them? She hid her face in her hands as I got down on one knee,

And asked her to do me the honor of becoming my wife.

And the best part?

She said yes!!

-And we got it all on video.

As my girlfriend-now-wife says in the video, I AM a show-off, but I initially got the proposal on video because I knew I would want to remember it forever. I also figured family members all around the world would like to see it too; Laura’s family is in Seattle and mine is scattered throughout Florida.

Watching it on video two years later, I still get the same butterflies in my stomach now as I did then. I was so happy, and so thrilled with that moment, I just wanted to share it with as many people as possible. I even made a website www.BonesLovesLaura.com just to let cyberspace share in it too.

What I didn’t expect were the comments! So many people have written in and the comments are so wonderful. Many of them are married people, or engaged people who were looking for innovative ways to propose, or just wanting to know what other people have done.

Our video is one of the most popular REAL proposal videos. There are some companies that have tried to copy our success by putting “rejected proposal” videos, but they’re all just bad advertising, and in my opinion, bad taste. Why ruin such a nice moment?

I think people like to see other people happy, and that’s why “feel-good” shows like Extreme Makeover Home Edition and Oprah do so well. Strong emotions bring us all together, and tears of joy are the best. I do a lot of things, I write, I act, and I have businesses, but this is far and away the best thing I have ever done.

The Texas Tigers and Billy Joe Bush

Everyone had high hopes for the Texas Tigers; they were the newest, and rumored to be the best baseball team ever put together.

Although they had only been playing together for a little while, they knew how to bring out the best in each other. The fielding was excellent, the hitting was bar none, and the pitching was fantastic.

Billy Joe Bush was a big baseball fan who had an inheritance big enough to buy several small countries. He chose to buy the Texas Tigers, and he had a plan to have them go undefeated.

Billy Joe Bush knew that if the pitcher pitched a no-hitter, that there was no way they could lose.

He ordered a no-hitter.

The pitcher told him that he would do his best, but that fortunately, the team had excellent fielding, and they had all been working on their hitting. Even the pitcher was batting .300.

“I said, a no-hitter” Billy Joe Bush made himself clear.

The pitcher explained that of course, he would love to deliver a no-hitter, but that winning the game was what the team's real goal was.

“Am I an idiot? Of course winning the game is the goal- and that's why I'm telling you to pitch a no-hitter. And if you don't pitch a no-hitter, I'm breaking up the team, and selling off each of you. End of discussion.”

“Billy, We can win the game without pitching a no-hitter-” the pitcher tried to explain

“If you don't pitch a no-hitter, I am taking apart the team.” and Billy Joe Bush walked away.

On the day of the big game, the whole team had heard about the order. None of them wanted to go out on the field, no one wanted to play, but since they were professionals, they pulled it together. They knew the fans were there for them to play their best, to do their best, and they would.

But the pitcher had to deliver a no-hitter, or it would all be over.

So, the pitcher took the mound, the players took the field. The crowd cheered, and got ready for the first pitch. The Texas Tigers knew they couldn't let everyone down.

The pitcher looked out to the hitter, looked into the eyes of the catcher, and did what he had to do to make Billy Joe Bush happy, keep the team together, and play more games in the future.

First pitch: High and outside. So was every pitch after that- He walked every batter.

The Texas Tigers lost the game miserably, but he pitched a no-hitter-

Just as Billy Joe Bush ordered.

Never bet against King James.

What does famous basketball star Lebron James have to do with my hangover?
Well, it's not what you think...

I decided to go out in Miami with a rather tall chilean female friend of mine,
and we ran into a bunch of Spaniards who kept saying that Miami was "puta madre",
which by my understanding means "whore mother".

Well, by the end of the night, I would know what they meant.

The four of us went out to The Delano, one of Miami's hottest, swankiest hotels,
where women can just stand around and be bought drinks, rooms, and
bentleys if they're patient. I turned my head for a second to talk to the spaniards
when some guy with a glint in his eye offered to by my vertically advantaged friend a drink:

"Have you had a Leblon James yet?"
"huh?"
"It's Leblon and Orange Juice"

I laughed, and maybe interrupting his flow,
"That's hilarious" I said.

Of course, I got the joke, that LebRon James (with an r) is a basketball star,
and so having Leblon (a brand of Cachaca) with orange juice was representative of him.

It was sweeter than a vodka and oj,
but not girlie, so I liked it.

We all liked it.

Well, the guy was nice enough to get us all a round,
and then another, and then another.

And at the Delano, that got pricey.

Frankly, I was thinking about going home with him myself!

We eventually left (sorry Delano guy) and went on to The Clevelander,
which is pretty much the opposite of The Delano, with people dancing
and rapping along to hip-hop beats all night.

We thought it was appropriate to order a couple of Leblon James' at the Clevelander
(Lebron plays for The Cleveland Cavaliers), but the bartender hadn't heard of it yet.

Once we explained it was Leblon with Orange juice,
the bartender laughed, and gave them to us on the house!

That's probably when we should have called the game,

but since we didn't pay for the first round, we made it up by ordering two more.
Well, about an hour into the dancing, just about when
Biggie was talking about how his crew does run-run, I felt it-

Leblon James had slam dunked on me.

I decided that I would put some money down on the next Cavaliers game,
because if King James' drink could do a number on me,
I'm pretty sure we'll see them in the final four this year.
